Just below the eastern foothills of the Himalayas lies a rich, green land of rolling plains and dense forests. Outside of China, Assam is the only other place on earth with a native tea plant, which is called Camellia assamica. Most teas are grown at high altitudes, but Assam tea is grown near sea level, giving it a robust character and malty flavor. Brilliant ruby-red safflowers provide a dash of color to this distinctive tea.
